Children’s Counseling

Houston Family Counseling cares enough about children that we are staffed with therapists specializing in specific ages and children’s struggles. We are poised to work with your child and you in person or online.

Young children sometimes have difficulty expressing their big emotions in ways that adults can understand. Parents then can feel helpless to intervene – to calm fears, deescalate tantrums, or shape behavior. Even the most involved, intentional parents run out of tools sometimes. We know how to engage your child therapeutically, and help them express what they are feeling.  We use play therapy techniques, story telling, and research backed cognitive behavioral strategies to work with your child on the specific challenges they are facing.  All of our therapists believe in the importance of including parents in the work they do with children.  You, after all, know your child better than anyone.  Let us partner with you to help with these or any other problems your child might be facing:

  • Anxiety or phobias
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Emotional regulation
  • Family changes
  • Oppositional behaviors
  • Anger
  • Self-esteem
  • ADHD
  • Eating disorders
  • Social skills
  • Peer interactions
  • Self harm
  • School refusal
  • Adjustment issues
  • Peer pressure
