Houston Family Counseling serves specific client populations with evidence-based group therapy practices. Group therapy is an effective treatment option on its own, or to augment individual counseling, helping clients achieve goals faster and retain skills better. Thanks to technology, people from different places can come together in groups, connecting during a time when they otherwise would feel isolated in their struggles.
Group counseling can serve as support and psychoeducation for folks dealing with grief, loss, divorce, and other life transitions. As so many people are facing devastating losses due to the pandemic, we are currently serving our community with several grief support groups.
Some groups use specific modalities of therapy or work with specific diagnoses or mental health issues. At HFC, we work with anxious children and adolescents using the acclaimed Coping Cat and Cat Plan programs that so many therapists are asking for for their clients. We also have clinicians at HFC trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and we periodically offer DBT skills groups for adolescents and adults. Struggling with weight? We have a clinician specializing in that, and she leads groups for adults and adolescents to help them permanently change the way they relate to food.
